Simply put, poetry slam is the art of performance poetry.  Established in the mid-80s as a means to heighten public interest in poetry, slam has evolved into an international art form emphasizing audience involvement and poetic excellence.

Alamo Verses is a unique opportunity for San Antonio middle school students to work with professional poets to create and learn to perform their own original poetry, then take it to the stage during academic "poetry slam" competitions.
